Sweet As Sugar

Had Diabetology exam recently, and what can I say? Diabetology rocks! IMO we should have had this subject when we were starting our clinical cycle. Things would have been clearer and easier for us. Oh well, I guess it's never too late to gain knowledge. Plus it's important for us future docs to know that the previous diabetes mellitus (DM) classification of Type 1 Insulin Dependent DM (IDDM) and Type 2 Non-insulin Dependent DM (NIDDM) is incorrectly used due to the fact that even Type 2 DM patients are prescribed with insulin as their treatment regimens nowadays. Therefore it's just Type 1 DM (insulin deficiency) and Type 2 DM (insulin resistance).

Note to self: DO keep up to date with the latest info on DM for future references. AND limit sugar and/or sugary products intake because prevention is definitely better than cure!

You so should do your final year thesis on diabetes. Really. Because:

1. A popular disease on the rise, so
2. You will always have people afflicted by it, and thus
3. It is very relevant and easy to find study subject.

If you are going to get involved with the patients on this one, may I suggest a psychological component whereby you evaluate their response to the diagnosis and whether they have adopted lifestyle changes in order to deal with the disease.

Just a thought, love. And maybe we can get a paper out of it. I would be happy to help you write it.
